Team Illinois Hockey Director - Larry has been involved in youth hockey for 20 years and has enjoyed success at multiple levels of hockey. Larry has coached youth hockey, Division I college hockey for 15 years, was a part-time advance scout for the Chicago Blackhawks and served as Commissioner of the North American Hockey league. During Larry's years in college hockey he spent 3 years as an assistant coach at Michigan under long time and current Head Coach Red Berenson. Larry was also the Head Coach at UIC for 6 years from 1990-1996.
Team Illinois is thrilled to announce the hiring of long-time veteran junior hockey coach Tony Curtale as the 2003 Team Illinois Bantam Major coach for 2017/18. Tony brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to AAA hockey and Team Illinois. In Tony's 20+ years as a head coach in junior hockey, he has moved hundreds of players onto college hockey and has a personal network in junior and college hockey that is unmatched by anyone in youth hockey today. Any Chicago area youth player that has the opportunity to play under Tony will benefit both on and off the ice and for years to come.
Team Illinois is extremely fortunate to add Rob to its coaching staff for the 2016/17 season. Rob has been integrally involved in Illinois AAA hockey for the past several years and brings extensive experience to his position. No coach in Illinois AAA hockey has enjoyed more success than Rob in recent years. Rob is largely responsible for the resurgence of the Chicago Young Americans as the former Hockey Director at CYA, and Team Illinois is looking forward to Rob having a huge impact in the future success of Team Illinois. Rob will coach the Spring 2004 and 2003 teams at Team Illinois. Rob will work closely with Larry Pedrie, Team Illinois Hockey Director, as the relationship between Rob and Larry dates back to 1991 when Rob played college hockey for Larry at UIC. Rob will focus solely on coaching and is looking forward to only those responsibilities and making a significant impact on the Team Illinois Spring 2003 and 2004 teams.
Sean is widely considered as one of the best skill development coaches in North America. Sean has worked with the USNTDP in Ann Arbor and was a Division I college hockey All-American at Michigan State under legendary coach Ron Mason, where Sean lead the nation in goals his senior season.
Chad has been coaching hockey and other youth sports for more than 20 years. Chad grew up playing and coaching hockey in Minnesota and recently moved his family to Chicago. In MN Chad coached at several of MN's most successful AAA and elite girls hockey programs at all ages, and has worked with some of the state's most successful high school and youth coaches. He served on the Eden Prairie Hockey Board and directed and/or advised on several elite hockey clinics over the last ten years. Since moving to Chicago 2.5 years ago, Chad has been involved with coaching at Chicago Mission, Naperville Sabres and Chicago Bruins with one trip to nationals thus far and one nationally ranked top five team.
Courtney M. O'Connor
Courtney began coaching in the summer of 2009. After graduating from Clarkson University in 2010, where she was a captain her senior year, began coaching in the fall with twin sister Claire O'Connor. Together they have been the co-head coaches for the Latin School of Chicago Girls' Varsity team from 2010 to current season. In the 2014-2015 season, she and sister claire were named the Illinois High School Girls' Coaches of the Year, and went on to with the State Championship game at the United Center. Courtney joined the Team Illinois family the spring of 2015 and is the Co-Head Coach of the U14 team currently.
Claire graduated from Plattsburgh State University in 2009 and after winning back-to-back NCAA Division III National Titles, she began coaching in the fall of 2010 with twin sister Courtney O'Connor. Together they have been the co-head coaches for the Latin School of Chicago Girls' Varsity team from 2010 to current season. In the 2014-2015 season, she and sister Courtney were named the Illinois High School Girls' Coaches of the Year, and also went on to win the first Girl's High School State Championship by a Chicago City program at the United Center. Claire joined the Team Illinois family the spring of 2015 and is the Co-Head Coach of the U14 team currently.
Team Illinois Girls Director - Jim has been involved in Illinois youth hockey both boys and girls for 25 years and brings great leadership to our girls program. At the youth level, he has coached mites through midgets and has held several director positions. At the NCAA level, he was an Assistant Coach for Lake Forest College for 2 years and works with the University of Wisconsin Men's Hockey Team. Jim is the founder of Hockey Biomechanics, Inc. and has worked with NHL, AHL and pros from other international leagues. He runs summer skating sessions in Sweden including women's teams with players from the Swedish National Team. He currently serves on the AHAI Girls committee. Team Illinois is very fortunate to have Jim take over the leadership of the Girls Hockey Program.
Matt has years of experience in working with hockey players, understands the necessary commitment for success and will import that passion into all of our players. His seasoned approach and visible professionalism to his training methods combined with his approachable welcoming demeanor make him an effective communicator for both our male and female athletes. Matt is originally from Macomb, Michigan and has an extensive hockey playing background. He has experience playing junior, college and minor pro before moving to Chicago. His credentials include a B.A. in Exercise and Health Science from the University of Massachusetts, Boston; Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association; Certified Precision Nutrition Coach and a Level 4 USA Hockey Coaching Certification.
