19U Sophie McBane Commits To NCAA Division III St. Olaf College
Team Illinois is proud to announce that 19U Sophie McBane has committed to play NCAA Division III Ice Hockey for St. Olaf College who compete in the MIAC.
The Oles are coached by Tracy Johnson and play in Tostrud Center in Northfield, MN. The $8 million modern indoor ice arena, connected to the Skoglund/Tostrud athletic complex, features an NHL-size rink and 804 individual stadium chairs. The complex features seven men’s and women’s varsity locker rooms, as well as state-of-the-art video broadcasting capabilities and media boxes.
Sophie fell in love with the school and town of Northfield immediately. “It’s overall progressive and welcoming environment drew me in right away. I love the coach, the team and the school’s academic record. It is absolutely the right fit for me.”
St. Olaf gives one the best liberal arts education you could ask for. The study abroad programs are excellent and provide students with an incredible array of opportunities to travel the world. Fun fact: As for college food, when compared to all other colleges in the US, St. Olaf is in the top 5.
Sophie would like to thank first and foremost her friends, family, Coach Tom Boyles and all of the Team Illinois coaching staff. She sends a special shoutout to all of her youth coaches from other clubs, camps and clinic. She also thanks Coach Tracy Johnson for giving her a chance at St.Olaf.
Sophie plans to study Nursing and Spanish with a minor in political science. Knowing Sophie like we do, we absolutely know she will excel both athletically and academically. She is a loyal, dedicated hardworking young woman who shows up every day and gives nothing less than her absolute best.
We wish her continued success and look forward to her collegiate play!
